Mrs. Sheets Cafe' and The First Thanksgiving with 2nd Grade
This year we explored the first thanksgiving with our 2nd Grade and provided their first experience with our Cafe' model. Here is how I opened the class. The First Thanksgiving was in the Fall of 1621
and it was called a Harvest Feast. It
was most likely attended by 80 Wampanoag Indians which mean “People of the Dawn”
(They were led by Chief Massasoit….he brought 5 deer himself)” and 52 English
Colonists and last 3 days …Our feast will only last 30 minutes.
· Did you know the Pilgrims did not use forks. …only spoons or their hands…We will use our spoons and our fingers.
· The Indians dried their food to preserve it …that’s why we will serve Beef Jerky (dried meat)
· The Pilgrims used spices such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper and dried fruit
· Hasty Pudding is an English version of the dish that you will be served.
· Sugar supply was very low in the fall of 1621 so we will have to time travel to get to some more tasty treats.
· Salt was not on the table.
